Who is Behind Guru Creations?
Guru Creations is me, Wendy Hearn. I’m also known as Wendu, Wendy Lee or simply "The Guru"
The GURU is created:
The name Guru Creations was created in the dark ages whilst I was working for the CSIRO in food technology, in a tie-dyed lab coat no less.
I shared a laboratory with a women who was to become my very dear friend. We immediately hit it off, and it wasn’t long before I called her "Lab Rat" and she called me "The Guru."
When the time came to create a business name, "Guru Creations” it had to be.
Wendu was due to my ability to type, or to spell, just not both simultaneously.
Friends started to call me "Guru Wendu" and it just stuck!
I was born Wendy Lee Hearn and have had a passion for jewellery making for as long as I can remember. I think it started in Pre-School the day they got me to make a necklace using fruit loops. Since then I have made numerous necklaces but these days I tend to make the non edible variety. Fruit loops don’t take too well to the kiln…
I have been working with different materials over the years, starting with lapidary where I learned the art of gemstone cutting. Silversmithing soon followed with glass hot on its heals, pun intended Everything I have learned over the years has culminated in the jewellery work I create, and I freely use skills from each medium I have experimented with.
Dichroic Glass is something that I have been playing with for quite a few years now, and I am still amazed by the colour, which brings a smile to my face. I fuse with dichroic glass and have been experimenting with using it in my Lampwork glass beads. I love playing with glass, melting it to see what it will do and how will react with other glass. The possibilities of this medium are amazing.
I often combine my glass work with my metalwork to create unique pieces of wearable art. Due to the nature of the glass and the processes used, no two pieces will ever be exactly the same.
